Over the last five years, a fox family has been living in a network of dens dug into
the hillside of a pasture near the barn. You can often look across the morning pasture and
see the parents heading off for their daily hunt of food. The largest number of kits
(baby foxes) we have seen at one time is seven. The kits are different colors as a red fox
actually has a variety of shades other than red, such as brown or lighter colors, for its
furry coat. The fox do not bother the sheep and are great rodent patrol for the barn. We
do have to keep the chickens safely penned up at night to protect them from the foxes
though.
