Parrots live anywhere from 50 to 100 years. All parrots are also not
alike.
TC is seven years old and thinks he's a little boy with wings. He
watches Blue's Clues, Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer. He is
learning to count, ask for what he was to eat, talks to Tucker and his
other brother Zachary. He makes up his own phrases and words.
He says, "Pardon Me" when he makes the burp sound, "Thank
you." when he's given something, and "See you
later" when someone leaves the house. He likes to take
metal puzzles apart and seems to have the mentality of a 2 year old
child.
TC's breed is from the Congo and he's omnivorous meaning he'll eat
meat and vegetables. African Greys stay mainly in the trees and
feel safe higher up. African Greys are the most prolific of talkers
and usually become vocal after their first year. If they like a sound,
word or voice they can pick it up after hearing it only once.
Most Greys can be taught to recognize colors and to count among other
things. TC likes to do tricks; dead bird if you shot him with
your finger, blows kisses, does this little piggy and peek-a-boo. He
also loves to travel and sits on a perch between the car seats.
Zachary is eight years old and a bit neurotic. He is with his
third family. Cockatoos bond with one person so it's very difficult
for them when they are given to someone else. Cockatoos like
Zachary are from the islands of the Indian Ocean and are mainly
vegetarian. Cockatoos like to flock on the ground and forage.
He will actually pick things up with his talon and eat it. Cockatoos
love to be cuddled and handled a lot. They are the parrots you
can train to dunk a basket ball or other manual tricks.
Zachary doesn't like to travel much but is getting used to it.
